The first time I read this sentence, it was at the end of a story about an aspiring porn star, and I thought, "Strange tribute."

I get it now, and it is a fitting tribute. The casualty numbers in news reports represent real people with real stories, and while you can't tell those stories, you can tell the stories which remind us that every human life is complex, and matters.
